Cat’s Track #95 – Linda Olsen
Welcome to Cat’s Track Episode 95, with guest Linda Olsen.
Linda Olsen is a local news anchor, reporter and producer and a proud born-and-raised Calgarian. She graduated from SAIT (Southern Alberta Institute of Technology) in Calgary’s Olympic year, 1988.
Fresh out of college, Linda began her career as a reporter and weekend anchor at Global News in Saskatoon. Within a few months, she accepted a job at CFCN (now CTV) back in her hometown of Calgary.
Linda joined Global Calgary in 1995 and considers herself fortunate to have been able to tell the stories of her hometown over her 25 year career with the news station.
Linda currently anchors and is co-producer of Global News at 5 and Global News Hour at 6. She is also part of the team that won Canada’s Best Newscast at the 2018 RTDNA awards, an honour the team took home in 2014, as well.
As a broadcast journalist, Linda has witnessed and helped walk Calgarians through some of the most interesting and significant events in and around the city of Calgary.
For 15 years, Linda also hosted and produced Global’s Woman of Vision series, a monthly segment featuring the stories of inspirational women in the Calgary community and wrote a column in the Calgary Herald. Linda was honoured to receive one of the Woman of Vision awards for her service in the community and commitment to the program.
In 2015, Linda was presented with an Honorary Degree in Business Administration from SAIT and in 2020 was presented with an Honorary Fellow Award from St. Mary’s University in Calgary.
Named one of Calgary’s Top 40 under 40, Linda is most proud of her three grown children who all call Calgary home. She is also involved with several charitable organizations in the city, including as a board member of the Calgary Children’s Foundation and Believe in the Gold for children’s cancer research.
A big part of her role with Global News is to support dozens of community partnerships with their charity fundraising events and awareness and to share their stories with Calgarians. Outside of work, Linda is a runner (when she is motivated) and recently took up road cycling.
